What you think is..,

As usual was enjoying my day off with a classic Hollywood motion picture, but today the difference is I was watching a British picture (personally I like the American, for the British is just too english and the hell with their accent!!!)

Anyways, this picture in particular was "The Iron Lady", the biography of the first woman who resided in 10 Downing street. And here is an excerpt from the same...

Watch your thoughts,
for they become words.

Watch your words,
for they become actions.

Watch your actions,
for they become habits.

Watch your habits,
For they become your character.

And watch your character,
for it becomes your destiny.

What we think, we become..,

The above is what the octogenarian Margaret Thatcher says to her doc when he asks "What do you think?"

Soon after she finished the above statement, she stresses her last statement - "I think I am just fine" advertently meaning "I am not going to die doc, that days not yet arrived!!!"

Superstar Rajinikanth surpasses Mahakavi Bharathi

We all knew the significance of Dec 12 than to Dec 21st which is still rumored to be the doomsday. Speaking in layman terms even a kid recognizes this date(Dec 12) as Superstar Rajinikanth's birthday. One who reached stardom merely by his simplicity.

The whole of the nation celebrated this day, all the television networks were competing with each other telecasting his handpicked movies, separate columns in daily papers, radio stations airing his hits, city pubs having a special DJ night on his name, facebook walls flourishing with posts on his gimmicks, mannerism and macho'ness  and last but not least, his renown rural fans setting up sound speakers around every block corner and playing his g(old)en hits of 80's.

But unsure how many knew the significance of Dec 11! Yes, not many knew it was the day Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathiyar was born!!

No offense to our superstar and am personally a big fan of his works, but it’s just that a bit of a concern where are we headed with this trend where our culture is being dumped...

Often forgotten

The right things you do in the morning will often be forgotten by the evening, but the wrongs ones will be reminisced in every gathering! Some by your family and the rest by your friends.

I never really understood what's so funny recalling one's mistakes from past. One thing I know for sure is it's not really to learn from others mistakes!

If you are already an victim of it, get used 2 it. And stop being paranoid ! ! !

One Day (not the movie and not the novel too)

Everything started today and ended today as well! Obama re-elected president.

There is no remorse from Romney who conceited the defeat and likewise Obama doesn't gloat on the fact he has re-elected.

Romney wishes Obama in his speech - "I wish and hope that our president (Obama) guides us to success"

Now that's what I call an election. I wish too had this kind of deliverable based processes herein India. But alas all we've got is politician driven elections. And the earliest we switch to this system would be when other nations have announced formally that this is an out-dated practice!

Petrol cost cut down - But Why?

Petrol price is cut by 56 paise per litre, will be in effect from midnight on (10/09/2012). Is this is another plot to raise it a couple days later to Rs 5 or more again!

Am just concerned what's behind this goodness act of our money-minded politicians! They are too good to play this do-gooder's act.

That's one way to put it !

Yesterday we were having a team discussion on bringing in automation and the with regards to that each of us has done some R&D which was presented in the meet. When the session was about to end and when the team put forth a concern would it be a good idea to take up a tool not knowing A, B, C or even the X, Y, Z!

One amongst us said - How hard can it be? You will be declaring a variable, calling the function, then comes decision making, followed by print statement based on the decision making and finally end statement. How complicated can this be!

I wisecracked - you make it sound so simple! You know, when I graduated my perspective of Java and Dot Net was also quite simple that Java was black-n-white while Dot Net is RGB !!!

Show off. Its not a bad thing

When others likes what seems to be your cup of coffee its an immense pleasure spilling it... i.e. showing off :D

People might talk behind your back about your pomposity, but I say screw em and let them talk behind, coz that is where they belong to!

If you are good at something, why do it for free? Go claim your credits, after all it's your work and you deserve to enjoy the fruits of your hard-work.

Reminiscing 9/11

In the memory of the then victims and the now victims... This day made another partition to the mankind. Like Before Christ (B.C) and After Death (A.D.) every thing was split up and referred to as Before 9/11 and after 9/11.

We lost about 50,000 lives on a single day, by the wink of an eyelid. It was and will always be referred to as the darkest days of terrorism, unless until another Osama raises up again & sending down more to the grave!

I heard that US is honoring their victims - the names of the victims of #Flight93 are read aloud at 9/11 memorial ceremony in #Shanksville, P.A.

Looking back!
The Colossal tower before collapsing
I personally don't remember much of the incident. Back then I was a 11 year old, trying to enjoy my roti's while they repetitively played the video footage of Twin tower going down. But those who did and of all, those who witnessed are yet to get the incident off their minds.

Big B (@SrBachchan) tweeted -
T 865 - 9/11 !!! Was on flight to US from London… made to get off… Shweta called to express shock.. In lounge saw second plane go in !

I seldom wish all of this was just a dream, a nightmare which we forget soon after we walk out of bed and feel the warmth of rising sun at the dawn. I wish..,

Another Hike

Hike - there is hike in everything, ranging from the basic amenities like milk to sophisticated necessities electricity! But my payroll seems to be an exception every time :) <<I wish my employers don't happen to see this :D >>

This morning, woke up to a twitter feed "Petrol prices likely to hiked by Rs 5 from today". Could there be a worse way to begin a day. I guess no!

And just moments ago received another news feed from Oil ministry "No immediate plan to increase fuel prices". So, does that IMMEDIATE mean not today but tomorrow or latest possibly day after tomorrow!

Pondering what does IMMEDIATE stand for in political dictionary..,

Washington Post on Indian Economy

Indian economy is the best economy, Indian economy is the best economy…

This could be accepted only in the movies like in Vijay starrer Gilli. But in reality, some lousy editor from Washington Post knows way more about the real Indian Economy better than us.

The Washington post offends our PM Manmohan Singh as a tragic figure. Though his achievements were listed, also the downgrading factors of his office were published.

Now the PM office sends a rejoinder after a day long discussion and debate on what crisis this might lead to! At times like these it really makes me feel sick why should it take 24 hours to defend ourselves! Are we really spineless like they criticize!

It's a shame..,

"If I was resigning I would not have been here. I hope the opposition sees sense in this"

Proving her wrong!

Life presents you with a lot of choices. Often you are pushed to crucial corners with having to choose between your favorites. The choices you have are walk away now and regret it for the rest of the life or go ahead, risk it and live the moment even if it happens to be just a moment.

Being a kid when others had ambitions and aims, I on the other had no idea.  On a lighter note was just hesitant what am I supposed to become. Aren't you supposed to have skills and talents? What do I have? What can I do in this competent world? And many more such negative thoughts.

Spent most of my time in front of TV and when my mother was concerned initially she'd advice. And what effect does advice have on kids? Being no exception sat affront TV just for the sake of irritating her even more. When things reached extreme limits I'd get thrashed with even more advice and one as such was - "You won't get paid for watching TV!"

That phrase is a very common one, at least herein India where everything and everyone feels insecure and the funny thing is I've seen marriages for the sake of security and dependency. Shouldn't marriages be done for being in love?

Anyways not having to elude from what I was about to say, it was then on hearing such a phrase I determined am going to prove her wrong. I'll make money exactly from what she said I can't. This day I've been partially successful in it.

Was offered by an online magazine that they'd bear the movie expenses I incur at cinemas. Though that's not a big something it is something. Have denied them but after appreciating their offer. Now feeling a bit contended that I've made something useful out of myself!

But still I haven’t proved her entirely wrong, looking forward to the day I do!

Building up Network

Should have posted this a while back... just noticed this was in my draft. Anyways here it is,

When I read Rashmi Bhansals Connect the dots, I discovered that all of them had good relations with people - be it common man or the supremacy kind. And to build such potent relationship they needed contacts who might introduce other contacts and the network might grow thick and strong.

Just like Boys Senthil says information is wealth, contacts are affiliated to wealth. Today was introduced to one of the entrepreneurs who runs an online magazine. Honestly I don’t know if he's a turtle turner or am I being presumptuous? But this much I do know that am building up my network - contacts.

Yes, he's introducing me to someone else and am given an opportunity to pen down. Looking forward to it with hopes - The best of it is always yet to come.

Divine yet Daunting

Happened to visit my native, and as while I was there also had the opportunity to stop by Kunnakudi as well. Such a divine temple spreading the serenity to it's surrounding environment. But a sad thing about it and all our south indian temples are that they lag when it comes to maintenance.

And i've missed mentioning the acoustics... When yelled something soothing, like Ohm (which one of the locale demonstrated for us) it resonates back. Felt good and bad at the same time.... not many, not even the ones who've been their knows it.

Rejoicing Independence

Google says, it took us over 150 years of struggle to get our independence and we are independent for 65 years now. But I fail to ascertain the fact - are we really independent?

I sometimes worry, occasionally laugh at the irony of fate we've been through. We united for a secular country and later lost it to the very same secularism. The chairpersons change, but the chair remains untethered.

My country,
Has the second leading population, and census state we would beat China in near future (some rejoice, we'll finally we beat China)
Where Pizza delivery is in 30 minutes with a money back policy while ambulance takes 1 hour give or take a few hours
The Commercials are free while the essentials costs sky high
The one who pays his taxes are negligent fools while the ones who manage to skip are smart
People marry for security reasons rather than for loving each other
Kids are born with a fate as to compete, for the world is portrayed a marathon. If you stand you succeed, else bury yourself in the stampede
Where a cricketer earns per match, while soldier per injury
Where Philanthropy is a mere act of publicity which foils the literal meaning of philanthropy
Insane rule while the rest of sane (such as me) simply grieve over it and move on with their lives
Our constitutional motto - For the people, of the people and by the people is the only part where people seem to be of some significance

But what the heck, still this is my country, this is my identity, this is what made me what I am now and will be tomorrow and the day after!

An Anology

Just happened to watch the Kalyan Jewelers recent ad with Big B and Prabhu. Though of the co-relation between the ad and the story of lord Shri Krishna and his play mate Sudhama. Before the analogy, here is a brief of the ad.

Kalyan Jewelers Ad
Big B in his old age is a school teacher in some remote village. As the school falls under a gram panchayat or even below that, the infrastructure is so poor and students are forced to vacate classes when there is rain.

Later Big B visits one of his former students who's well settled in city and is quite influential. When the watchman restricts his entry on the very sight of a poor old beggar, Prabhu who by chance sees him comes to his rescue, falls in his feet to express his gratitude and treats the guest just like a noble man does to anyone.
After dinning together, Prabhu shows the pictures from old days and when Big B slides the picture of him and Prabhu with the school building as back drop, his eyes shed a tear, an emotional scene which prabhu misses to take a note off. Without uttering a word about the purpose of his visit Big B starts his journey back to his village.

After a tiresome night long journey, when he reaches his village Big G is astounded to see Prabhu instructing some workmen regarding the resurrection of their symbol of love - school.

The Krishna Sudhama Analogy
Lord Krishna and Sudhama grew up together in a paatshaala(schooling of their time). On graduating, they parted their ways, Krishna - to rule his kingdom & Sudhama to his etiquette Brahmin life. As years passed on Sudhama's financial situation worsened a lot. His wife persisted that he visit his childhood friend Krishna and seek his help.

Though he hesitated, he finally gathered courage to visit his friend. While he started off, he packed along a packer of chaval which was Krishna's favorite since the paatshala days and Sudhama's mother used to give him a lot and spoilt him more.

When he reached Dwaraka where Krishna was governing, he was surprised to see its magnificence. And even more astounding when he saw Krishna himself. While krishna was healthy and wealthy Sudhama was lean and poor.

Krishna treated his guest well, and Sudhama on the other hand was embarrassed on how to present him a dirty bag of chaval to a wealthy king! But Krishna was no ordinary king, he found out a bag tied to his hip and enquired what it was. Having no option Sudhama took it out and handed it over to Krishna, he felt overjoyed and hugged Sudhama. When the day came to an end, Krishna bid farewell toSudhama and went to attend his chores.

Sudhama was too prestigious to seek an helping hand, so he returned empty handed. But when he returned home, he was panicked to see his house missing and a palace in it's place over fortnight! He was even more surprised when he saw his kids came running out to hug his father with kilos of gold attires. He just then realized Krishna had known it right from the beginning and was letting Sudhama be himself, for a friend knows what he needs and doesn’t expect them to be said out loud!

What Women Wants!

What Women Wants - A mystical mystery!

Try remembering when was the last time some women you knew was satisfied about what you did. Well, as and while you try, I'll work on it myself.
.
.
.

.
Nope, it's like never, there has always been a feedback -
Maybe it could have been this way
you've tried, but this is not what I asked for
Where you even listening to what I said!
Can't you just do this one thing I asked for (well, everytime it will just be ONE time)
Maybe I should have asked your brother instead of you!
Even you sister can do better than you do
You are just hopeless
I never said that, I just mentioned it would have been better if it was that!

Well, I presume all of you men might have heard these phrases at certain point of time, and there are many more which I couldn’t recollect right now.

Be it any women, be it you girl friend or mom or be it even your gammy, when it comes to acknowledging our acts, they seem to be quite united!

P.S. - this one is dedicated to my mom, whom I've never been able to convince that am capable of doing ONE SANE thing ever in my life. I've just given up entirely now.

F.R.I.E.N.D'z

When I failed, they patted on my back - it's alright
When I had heartbreaks, they cheered me up - there are always second chances
When I achieved, they were besides me - I am happy for you
When I was turned down, they made it easy saying  - there is always a next time
When I erred, they backed me up - It's not your fault
When I refused debauchery, they patted - stay good for us as well, will you?
When in trouble, they stuck around all along
When I fooled around, they cleaned up my mess
When I was sick, they cared for me
When I was mad, they were inturn mad
When I failed believing in myself, they believed - You've got it, you've just got to realize it
When I was furious, they made fun of me… still they remained friends with me
I just hope I've been just the same they've ever been to me all along...

Reminiscing all those treats, late night outs, movies, outings, few long trips, bullying, being bullied, ogling, classroom naps, little ego clashes, occasional fights oevr unethical play

Though there weren't many, am glad I've got few of em…
Having a friend around is a FRIENDSHIP DAY everyday of the year, round the clock..,

After effects of being to a funeral

Funny, when the soul departs the flesh, it is called a BODY in urban words or Cadaver in medical terms! We forget the fact it was a person just before where they are now, if only they could hear and see things around after their own death, they'd wish to die all over again!

Scene 1 - Just outside funeral service
Our task here is to shift body to places, once when the body arrives from mortuary, I've got to take it up the stairs to home and later, after the rituals are done with get it back to the cremation van.

Scene 2 - Tea stall around the block
G: Seems like India won a silver in Olympics, great news rite!
B: (thinks to himself - duh, it was like 15 hours back - why are we speaking about dead news!) Wow, great news yaar

Some X (who's here for the funeral, smoking black cigar) - Aiyoo rama !!!

Scene 3 - Mortuary Van
Driver: What you paid was for the paper work, we are doing things with interest for the departed souls, you should be respecting that and tip us good!
Relative: No way am paying extra bucks, we will go by the terms we came into earlier, even before paper work started out!

Scene 4 - someone over phone
When are you planning to come Iyer Ji, it's already half past 10, we were supposed to start our rituals about an hour back
(hangs up as he sees the Iyervaal's TVS Scooty coming to a hollering stop)
Iyer 2: Sorry Mama, got into the traffic
Rel: What ji, it's Saturday, since when are we strangled in Saturday's jam
Iyer 1: Okay Okay, we already delayed, lets light up fire before the Rahu Kalam

Scene 5 - Among the gathered relatives

A: Hey, these are the one I mentioned earlier - the in-laws.
B: Oh, good, I thought they wouldn't show up

A: of course they would, they are the in laws!!! And by the way did you notice the one along with her hair cropped - a pop cutting or something…

Scene 6 - Close circle of the deceased
This should not have happened, this is a dream, I was supposed to take you to over a walk this Sunday. Come on, up now, lets prepond it, how about we go for that walk today instead of tomorrow.. Come on now, get up, please…

Scene 7 - Not so close to the deceased
Any idea how long it might take?

P.S. - Random events from different funerals I've been to, are put together. Though they vary from each one of them, they still seem to be correlated ...

Finding Time

As usual, the Monday morning, forwarded my blog on the latest flick I watched – The Dark Knight Rises – to my colleagues.
Taking a peek into it, one of my colleague got back to me with a simple query – “it should be eating up much time, how do you manage!”
“Well, I don’t have a girl friend to spend my weekends with and it leaves me ample amount of time for me to trifle around; my friends are workaholics just like I am – working at home & occasionally blogging from work; hardly step out of home if not for cinemas; never indulge myself with hiking or sports or anything as such & neither do I have such athletic physic; am also kind of sleep deprived, summing up all, I’ve got nothing better to do than scribble which I call myself a blog!” is what came to my mind. But then something more of a fact flashed and I blurted out the same – It’s not about patience, but passion…
Sounds true though now, doesn’t it!

The Replacement Factor

It's been hardly a week and the Guwahati incident has already been replaced by Rajesh Kanna's death.

NDTV headline reads "The last words of Rajesh Kanna - PACK UP"
Nut heads, real nut heads these media people are. Not now, not henceforth, it's been ever since early nineties. Those who have known Kublha Khan or those have watched the movie Citizen Kane would know this.

Citizen Kane is a character, a mutli millionaire who lived through the world wars and an influential entrepreneur. His dying words "Rosewood" were fuming across the streets as media made it talk of the town. News reported were competing to find it out first. The following two hours after the death of Kane was merely a reality show run by press person only to find out Rosewood was no person, no concubine of Kane which most of the media persons believed, not the name of his virtual daughter, not his crush and not his second family, but the skateboard he had as a kid. Yes, the skate board was named "Rosewood" which none of the news persons found out until it all came to an end.

The once sensational news is overridden by the next. People move on, funny, yet it's incontrovertible!
Seriously "PACK UP", god I just can't get it over my mind. Who cares what his last words meant, no disrespects to the veteran, but it's just intolerable !

When will this end or will it end firsthand?

Ref. to Guwahati molestation case

I've been receiving twitter feeds over my mobile since July 9th. And it is today, a week after the horrid incident, I am aware of it's seriousness. Firstly its a shame on me that I turned my face away for the sole reason it didn't concern me. Secondly who are those as**oles, are they even one third human!

The Guwahati Incident <A Brief>
July 9 '2012, G.S Road, a teenager was walking past a local night club after attending a friends B'day party. She was pummeled and molested allegedly by a mob of 20 monsters (which the media now claims to be a team of Newslive channel).
As she was stripped off and harassed in public over 30 minutes, it's a shame no one came to her rescue and the more sickening fact is the whole scene was video taped by another mean monster of the same regional television channel.

Getting to know of such incidents just scares the shit out of me!
How could one behave as if in WILD !
What kind of a sick bastard would pummel a teen out of lust!
I still can't believe if this is India or am I reading about some Arab countries!

If I were given the authority to verdict!
I might sound harsh, but they deserve it
These mean monsters should be stripped crude and made to walk out on streets with burn marks from cigarette butt stamped all over their bodies, which they should carry.

But again I wonder would this happen, some freak or nerd from Human Rights or XWZ Commission would peek his nose talking some crap - "Whatsoever might be the crime, one should not be treated this way"

It just makes me ponder, what can be done. If the guilty isn't punished a crew comes shouting with plea for justice and if by miracle if a crude verdict is passed some other NGO group comes around the way bargaining to show some humanity and call this insanity

What needs to be done and can it be done? Perplexed !!!

It took me two years..,

Took me two years, even though it was by choice

I still remember sitting in the interview room affront my then QA Manager two years back. He did ask some tricky questions and apparently had knocked me down. It was one though which would be resonating in my inner walls of my cerebellum.

"How do you see yourself in, say about, 3 years from now?"
This was prompted against me, so I had to answer something witty and convince him to recruit me, so I gave my best (or atleast I thought it to be the best :D )
"Three years from now, I'd be the same place you are now!"
What I expected was a pat for my attitude, but the actual was a failing test case!!!
He poised back - "Do you think I am here in just a matter of three years?"
"Do you really expect things to be that easy?"

There were a lot of questions popping up in my mind in response to such a flabbergasting question "Damn, is that what a manager would expect of me, or would the so called internal politics hinder my growth or maybe I'd never get a chance and I'd remain a resource, the bottom of the cycle whose name, sorry, only his title would be mentioned every once in a while in the onsite status calls!

Fortunately/ unfortunately, I was indeed recruited and here I am, to be seated in an interview room, for the first time not having to answer but to poise questions!

Though it was not by my choices and just an option that my present manager is held up with things, I wouldn't be presumptuous and call this "It was destined to be" for I believe "One paves his way to his destiny"

Am even more gracious that I am here in the place an year ahead while I had intended to be there sometime later!

A Thousand Splendid Suns

A Thousand Splendid Suns - No matter what, do not read this its full of
Lies
Treachery
Betrayal
Injustice
Inevitable
Greed
Unfairness
Incontrovertible
BITTER TRUTH
of all LIFE itself!!!

It's too good and whelming, and by the time you reach half way, you feel your heart heavy, some kind of burden
It just makes me sick to wonder where men such heartless pricks, ruthless animals !

If need be save a copy of it, but just don't dare to read it…

Detailed Synopsis on the plot

Harami, bastard, yes, thats how the books starts in early 1960's. Mariam, a harami, for the only sin she committed was to be born illegitimate, though the mistake and the sin was committed by their parents. Her mom was a pessimist, always talks bad to her daughter, for she didn't know how to love. Taunting her daughter with bad words was her own way of loving her daughter.

Mariam though loved Jalil, her baba, and was stupid silly little girl to believe all the lies he says. She would eagerly await for Thursday to come as that is when Jalil pays her a visit, with gifts and chocolates.
Though jalil already had three wives, he didn't take mariam and her mother for a legitimate relationship for the fear of ruining his family name and reputation of his own.

As years roll by, Mariam turns fifteen and asks a birthday present, something which she will regret for the rest of her life. She asks him to take her to the newly released cartoon movie, screened in his own theater. And she insisted she watch it along with her entire family, which she has never gotten to meet.
Jalil agrees, reluctantly though. When he fails to show up the next day to fetch her, she heads to his home herself, despite Mariam's mammy warning "You step out of house, it will be the last time you see me". Mariam reaches his home, in the town of Herat, only to despise herself, for Jalil has turned his back on to her. Jalil's driver takes her back to his home after she strikes on a night long dharna in his porch.

When she curses herself, the day can't get any better, she reaches home and is shrieked by the scene of her mother's corpse dangling atop from a tree branch! This time Jalil has no option but take her in, Mariam regrets the day she stepped out of her house, if not for which her mother would have lived. Soon, Jalil's family plans to get rid of this illegitimate child, they plan to marry her off to a 45 year old businessman, a shoe maker, Rasheed from Kabul. Not having much of a choice, like a docile kid, she marries him and curses herself for the rest of her life. Allah punishes her, or that's how she thinks when she couldn't attain motherhood, she'd consummate, conceive and finally cuss up for losing her child, it happened straight six times until she gave the thought of motherhood. She'd envy the baby girl next door 'Laila' born to her neighbors Babi and Hazmi, a year after Mariam moved in to Kabul with Rasheed.

Laila has her own saga, when she was born on 1979, the soviet were making trouble, her mammy looses her two sons to those Soviet wars, but Laila never, not for a moment, felt for her loss, for she had never known them much since her birth. They were already in war while she was still going to school with Tariq (her companion). Laila and Tariq were always fond of each other, they'd go to school, to malls, to bazaars together. They were like a couple since birth. Tariq was two years elder to her and was also a cripple, who has amputated leg.

Babi, Laila's father was a well educated man, who wanted Laila to study well and would always pat her "tomorrow is women's world, it will be you governing, administering, leading". But then there was shrieking reality, the Soviets had now run away, leaving treachery and corruption to the hands of the locals talibans and phastoons and tajik's and many many more. Years roll on, when Afganisthan falls from within one side, innocent love sprouts between Laila and Tariq amidst the war. When the war worsens Tariq's family plans to move out to Pakistan, when Tariq reaches Laila with this news, she almost collapses and in affright and agony they unite physically and mentally.

Laila denies Tariq's hand in marriage for she can't let alone Babi alongside his sick wife and her mother. Tariq moves along, a couple of weeks pass by and finally Laila's mammy agrees to move out from the god forbidden part of this country. As and while Babi, Laila and her Mammy were moving out, a taliban rocket fell atop their roof, taking away lives of Babi and mammy. Laila was stranded alone in the ruins of the shredded buildings, whom Rasheed found out and took her to his home and had her treated by Mariam - this was the turning point in either of their lives!

A couple weeks later, on betterment of Laila's health, a visitor stops by in Rasheeds house and seeks for Laila, to pass on the news of tragic end of Tariq and his family in the border of Pakistan where they fell victim to one of those rockets that went off herein as well. Soon after the tragic news, Rasheed comes up with a proposition, there is no free lunch, if she needs a roof under her head and food to live on, then she's gotta marry him, else she can be on her way and he wouldn't force her into it. Laila knows well what awaits outside, she has seen it happen to other girls, her friends, her classmates, bombed, ravished, throat slit or worse all three.
She accepts Rasheeds proposal for two reasons, first she's got nowhere else to go and she doesn't want to end her life on her own for now she bears another life within her - little Tariq

Fifteen year old Laila marries sixty year old Rasheed, years roll on, and these are the darkest years of her life, letting Rasheed ravage her, exploit her youth, she gives birth to Tariq's daughter - Aziza. A couple years later she gives birth to Rasheed's son - Azmail. Rasheed himself was not such a pleasant man, in the initial days Mariam and Laila where cats and dogs, but eventually things changed when Laila stood up for Mariam when Rasheed raised hands and Mariam for Laila. Laila became her long lost child for Mariam. There were days Mariam would let Laila place her head in lap and lay asleep while her own kids crawled nearby in the afternoons. Years rolled on further, so did the raise in torments and taunting from Rasheed.

When war savaged and there was nothing much left with them, as Rasheed could no more pay for bread Laila is forced to let Aziza in an orphanage. She'd pester Rasheed so often to pay visit to orphanage as Taliban had laid rules as a women should not stray afar from home in the absence of man, a relative of hers, or if found, would be thrashed and sent back home! It was once such day, she was astounded to meet Tariq. It strikes her only then that Rasheed had tricked her to get her married, all were lie. They converse in their home, while Mariam takes care of kids. Tariq promises to meet her tomorrow again not aware of what next is about to happen. When Rasheed returns home, his son blabbers about a new friend of laila visiting and Rasheed starts thrashing her, only this time much more violent with harsh words, he also mentions that he was not a fool to be unaware of Aziza and her real dad!
When he strangles her, Mariam becomes restless and for the first time in her twenty seven years with Rasheed raised his hands against him, and ends up killing him!

When everything settles down, when Laila gains conscience, Laila suggest they evacuate and run away with Tariq, but Mariam, the ever innocent and now experienced too, decides to act like a mother. Yes mother, which she had wanted to be all her life. She bids farewell to her kids, Laila and Tariq with his new family and Mariam surrenders herself to jurisdiction. She is then given verdict, the very well known and she starts counting end of her days.

Mariam thought she'd feel guilty, she'd throw up, make a scene and make them drag her to her deathbed. But to her surprise, she doesn't. She faces her end with the very thoughts - "This was a legitimate end to a life of illegitimate beginnings."

Worth a read

Lord Shiva is angry on the mankind for some reason. It's a fable foretold that we are blessed with rain when Lord Vishnu blows his Conch (Sanghu). Now that Lord Shiva is angry on us mankind, he provokes Vishnu from blowing his sacred conch for a period of 12 man years.

This news is then being telecast-ed  in televisions, goes round in internet and flyers and all other mass medias. As the word spreads that drought will dance for the next 12 consecutive years, madness occupies man's mind. Few die, few kill, the rest try to survive.

As time flies, lord Shiva notices a farmer ploughs his land everyday. Shiva ignored him to be a disturbed mentally aggressive farmer. When this doesn't stop, Shiva sends out a mediator to make some sense out of him.

The mediator meets the farmer and notifies him that - here is me informing you formally on behalf of his lord Almighty that you're mankind has to suffer drought for the next 12 man years. Hence stop wasting your time ploughing. It's hardly of any use!

Farmer responded immediately - who said am wasting my time. I know that we aren't blessed with rain for the next 12 years. But it sure will rain after 12 years isn't it! When it does, will I still remember how to plough? That is why am ploughing my farm daily just to keep myself out of practice!

Lord Vishnu watching the whole scene down herein earth, takes out his conch and blows it right away and it starts raining herein earth!

Shiva rages and asks Vishnu to reason out his behavior. Lord Vishnu seeks his forgiveness with a saying - My lord, what if I forget how to blow my conch after 12 long years!

Live, Let Live !

It was just another day like every other day, the same transit route, same traffic, same raging summer heat, same traffic red lights, but today there was something superfluous to the routine- not pleasant though – a distinct siren wailing from a distance.

I cornered myself thrice just to ensure if there was an ambulance behind me, or was it on the opposite bay! Unable to locate any I presumed it to be headed the other way. But as I traveled along, after 20  long minutes, finally the ambulance came to visibility and it was right behind me, strangled between a car and an auto rickshaw.

What makes the situation worse is the ego clash between the autowala and the car driver. Unless either one of em loose this race, the ambulance has no go, but to wait until the signal falls green which is almost a mile away from where we are. It was such a pity, it just reminded me of my friend Kavi, when he sees a siren wailing, he’d just close his eyes for a moment and pray for the poor soul in the ambulance.

When someone can spend a minute and pray for an unknown soul, why can’t people just make way while a life is in danger. Is that all the value of a life, a minute delayed could be a tremor to the person in the ambulance.

Worsening it more, after another 10 minute long wait, when the light changed green and the car driver softened and gave up to the local goon autowala, the ambulance took off with a 10 meter tail of motorist and a bunch of autos (no wonder why the car driver hesitated…)

When did man become such heartless swine! I felt like cussing out loud at those chain of motorist trying to catch up with the ambulance, but I held back myself reminding – this is how it is and nothing can be done..,

If Live and let Live was paraphrased to current day’s lifestyle it’d be ‘Drive and Let Drive

Price for being honest!

I don't tap illegal cable connection from my neighbor, I don't manipulate a Wi-fi network for a free internet connection, I don't wait until last day for the payment of EB and telephone bills. My neighbor is contradictory to me, but my cable connection gets scrambled every two weeks for which I call up my service provider to come fix that; my wifi connectivity is poor as my vendor doesn’t provide me the promised bandwidth- when I write him an email, he copy pastes my name in a template and sends it across ; my EB bill populates add on charges automatically for no reason and my telephone operator tells my I've got outstanding due for the connection I disconnected 9 months back!

My neighbor, fit for nothing but has a loudmouth with which he'd sell even the AI airplane for a lakh!, doesn't have to face any of this…

No wonder why India has been a develoooooping country for these many decades, from what I know we've been a developing country, we are a developing country and I also presume we will remain so for Decades centuries yet to come

If you want to play by rules, you better not be in INDIA !
If you are honest you will be ruined !

This reminds me of Spielberg's picture 'The Terminal' - even he knows India better, in that movie, there'd be a 60 year old character named 'Gupta Rajan' played by an Indian oldie. The character is an illegal immigrant who ran off from India for he stabbed a cop.

He explains -
I opened a pawn shop at Madras (now Chennai), a cop comes and says "You have opened the shop in illegal area, I bribe him on a Tuesday"
He again comes on Wednesday, this is common here, so I pay him again
He comes again and again, I pay him again and again and again.
Then one day when he came, I stabbed him in his chest and ran away from India!
